About the Author

G. Allen Wilbanks was born and raised in San Jose, California.  From an early age, he was drawn to dark fantasy and horror stories in movies, books, and every other form of media he could find.  His childhood was relatively normal, so it is unknown just what emotional trauma led to his love of all things macabre.

As a teenager, he began writing his own short stories that were all, almost without exception, quite terrible.  Although he feels that his writing has improved marginally since then, there are others (notably family members) that would dispute the claim.

G. Allen attended college at the University of California at Davis.  His major was a somewhat fluid affair, but he finally managed to cobble enough units together to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in 1989 in the field of Genetics.  While at the university, he also took a couple of creative writing classes which he greatly enjoyed.  The professors in his writing classes were deeply impressed with his talents and suitably rewarded him with a B- and a C+ respectively.  High praise, indeed.

So with a Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics, and a love of writing creative fiction, G. Allen Wilbanks took the obvious next step in his professional career … he became a police officer.  For the next 25 years, he wrote traffic collision and burglary reports to pay the bills and put food on the table, and he wrote fantasy/horror fiction in his spare time (to try) to stay sane.

It was several years before anyone other than the cat was allowed to read any of his writing, and in September, 2000, he published his first short story, “The Love Bear,” which has thankfully been out of print and lost for many years now.  Since then, G. Allen has published more than 200 short stories in various magazines and electronic formats.  He has also been a contributing author to multiple anthologies, including the internationally best selling Dark Drabbles series by Black Hare Press, and the Mortem Cycle released by Nordic Press. In addition, he has released two full collections of his own short works, and several novels and novellas. In 2020, his novel, “A Life of Adventure,” debuted on Amazon as a top seller on their Hot New Releases for Fantasy/Adventure Fiction.

In 2016, G. Allen Wilbanks retired from law enforcement to devote his full attention to writing. A move he wishes he had made many years sooner.

G. Allen lives in Northern California with his wife and two daughters.
